Hey Look, I Won a Contest!

Photobucket

Now I realize this post will be the second Sarah-pats-herself-on-the-back-and-smiles post of the week but....well, here it is.  As some of you may know, or have inferred on your own, I am obsessed with social media.  I have been doing social media consulting while still in school and hope that I can soon make my creepy internet obsession into a legitimate and fruitful career.

I have previously mentioned the entertaining and informative Spa Week Blog in a post you may recall.  (If you saw the post, the video is probably hard to forget!)  SpaWeek.com's blog recently held a contest that asked participants to provide social media advice for Karla Farach, President and Founder of KROIA Skincare.  KROIA Skincare offers products that approach skincare holistically, integrating chromotherapy, gemstones, and cutting edge ingredients.

Well, I won and my blog was featured on the site!  So exciting!  I offered social media advice that focused on genuine and meaningful interactions with current and potential customers.  If you would like to see my response, check out the post from the contest here!

I also won a contest yesterday when I swiftly identified this picture as the ceiling of The Cheesecake Factory.  I almost wish I was joking.  I guess gazing up at the artfully decorated ceiling after consuming thousands of calories in cheesecake has finally paid off.  I feel as if I have won the ultimate fat kid contest.  Next, I shall shoot for winning a contest identifying cheeses through the sense of smell or possibly become a pizza taste tester for a living.  The pie sky is the limit!

When Gettin' the Blues is a Good Thing

Photobucket

The frigid cold of winter will soon melt away to reveal spring's April showers and May flowers.  Thank goodness.  I am so over layering!  (I especially hate wearing 500 layers of clothes just to ride my scooter less than a mile.  Not attractive.)  This spring, getting the blues will not only be a good thing, but will also solidify your status as a highly informed fashionista.  Say goodbye to the popular purples of winter and hello to the blue hues of spring!  To kick off the season (okay maybe a little early but like I said, I am impatiently awaiting warmer temperatures) I have chosen some of my top picks to share with you lovely people.

If you are a new reader, WELCOME!  If you didn't already know, I recently publicized my blog by way of a ridiculous and shameless self-promoting Facebook fan page. (Join it, do it, you know you want to.)  I understand that many of my friends in "real life" as opposed to my creepy "internet life" now read my blog.  If you know me personally and think I am weird for blogging, well, you are probably right.  I am weird.  But, if you also know me in real life and think that this is very typical of me to find an outlet for my opinions and blabbing, you are also right.  So, that being said, I hope you enjoy my incessant banter and carefully crafted witticism.  Maybe you will learn something cool and useful to improve your life.  Maybe you won't.  But, if you don't read my blog, you will never know!

So now you have no choice but to read it.

What to Wear?

Photobucket
...LuLu's...

Finding the perfect frock for Valentine's Day is always a challenge.  You don't want your outfit to scream, "HEY!  IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY AND THIS IS WHY I AM WEARING THIS DRESS!  IT IS PINK/RED!  SEE!?!?!?"

Instead, understated, stylish dresses are the perfect fit for the day of love.  I am personally partial to pink (obviously) so I chose some of my favorite pieces in various price ranges.  If you are planning on wearing a dress that pops, let it do the talkin'.  There is no need to match your shoes to your dress, to your earrings, to your necklace...you get the point.

If you are more of a LBD (Little Black Dress) girl, check out my post for perfectly pink accessories that would complement any classic shift.

I think it is obvious by now that I love pink.  Since Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, I have more of an excuse to lust after beautiful merchandise in my favorite color.  Enjoy.

Workout with Lilly!

Photobucket
I guess it is my inner (well, and...outer) sorority girl that makes me love Lilly Pulitzer so much.  I honestly don't even know how many Lilly dresses I have...I think it has to be over 15!  I adore the sunny, positive, upbeat feel of Lilly's patterns and prints.  I love Lilly for many of the same reasons I love tennis.  I know that may sound strange, but both appeal to anyone age 2 to 92!

Sara Bernard is one of my new Twitter friends (follow her here) and is an assistant tech designer for Lilly!  She designs fabulous Lilly pants, shorts, and skirts FOR A LIVING!  (UHM...Can you say DREAM JOB!? Jealous!)  I recently responded to one of her tweets and expressed my desire to see a line of Lilly workout wear.

As you may remember from a previous post, I have been getting my workout on almost every day in 2010!  I thought it would be amazing if I could wear my Lilly at the gym too!  I love brightly colored workout wear and almost every piece I own is pink, orange, turquoise, or yellow.  Since most women are like me and love to wear bright colors while sweating it out, why not sweat it out with Lilly on!

Here are some of my ideas for a Lilly workout line.  I would DIE if some of these ideas came to fruition!  (How awesome would that be!?)  I even created some names for these pieces for fun!  The newest Lilly prints were used for inspiration, enjoy!

Jump + Suit

Photobucket

I have been thinking about how I feel about jumpsuits for a while now.  (Yes this is what I think about.) I am a huge fan of the romper and am glad that they caught on.  I have enjoyed the fact that I no longer get asked if I am wearing a "onesie." The only issue that arises when I wear rompers is when I have to take a trip to the ladies' room.  (Talk about inconvenient.)  Recently I have seen a few jumpsuits that have caught my attention and would be worth the future powder room production.

The key to rocking a jumpsuit is how you accessorize.  In this case, less is ALWAYS more.  Each of the looks contain only one accessory.  Don't layer your accessories when wearing a jumpsuit or you might look like an extra in a Juvenile music video.  Here are some of my favorite jumpsuit looks!

I'm Paula Deen Y'all!

Photobucket

I am an awful cook. Okay, I'm maybe not the worst cook ever, but I am pretty bad. I have wanted to become a better cook for a while and thought today just might be the day to test my skills. Besides making a DISASTER of my kitchen and using every bowl, pan, and spatula I own, my creations turned out great! (And judging by my photoshopping above, I think I now know what I am going to look like when I am a grandma. I look way too much like Paula it's scary.)

Paula Deen was on Oprah the other day and it reminded me how much I love that woman! I figured that Paula's easy, southern, no fuss recipes would be a good place to start my culinary education. Since most of Paula's recipes could clog the arteries of a hippopotamus, I decided to make two of her son Bobby's "lighter" dishes. So, I chose to make Bobby's Lighter Cheesy Mac and Bobby's Baked Chicken with Dijon and Lime. I altered the recipes slightly and they both turned out delicious!

Photobucket

Bobby's Lighter Cheesy Mac

Ingredients

4 cups cooked multigrain elbow macaroni, drained
2 1/2 cups reduced-fat shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup low fat (1%) milk
2 eggs, slightly beaten (I used egg whites)
1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 tablespoon olive oil

Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a casserole dish with nonstick spray.
After the macaroni has been boiled and drained, add cheese while macaroni is still hot. Combine the milk, eggs, sour cream, mustard, salt, and cayenne in a medium bowl. Add to macaroni mixture. Pour into casserole dish. Combine bread crumbs and oil in a small bowl until blended. Evenly sprinkle the crumb mixture over the macaroni and lightly spray with nonstick spray. Bake, until the filling is hot and the topping is golden, 35 – 40 minutes.

Bobby's Baked Chicken with Dijon and Lime

Ingredients

1 (3 1/2 lb) chicken, cut into 8 pieces (I used boneless, skinless chicken breasts)
3 Tbs Dijon Mustard
1 Tbs Mayo
1 Garlic Clove, minced
Finely grated zest and freshly squeezed juice of 1 Lime
3/4 Tsp pepper
Salt to taste
Chopped parsley to garnish

Preheat the oven to 400. Rinse the chicken and pat dry. In a bowl, whisk together the mustard, mayo, garlic, lime zest and juice and pepper. Season the chicken generously with salt. Pour the mustard-mayo mixture over the chicken, tossing well to coat. In a large baking pan, arrange the chicken in a single layer. Bake until it is cooked through; breasts take about 30 minutes and legs will need 5 to 10 minutes more. Serve the chicken with pan juices drizzled over top and garnished with chopped parsley.

Do you have any favorite Paula recipes? Let me know if you try these out! Happy cookin' y'all!

Hello Michael

Photobucket

I have been on the hunt for black gladiators with a wooden heel for quite some time now. (I guess that is a pretty specific thing to be "hunting" for but I have been none the less.) One of my favorite pairs of shoes that I have blogged about before are my Kristin Davis (of SATC, yes, she has a line for Belk) charcoal silver gladiator heels. I wear them all the time but knew it was time to find a similar black pair to give my Kristin's a rest. (Does the photo album under my shoes look a little familiar???)

Photobucket

While meandering through the aisles at TJ Maxx the other day I stumbled upon these beauts! Michael Kors never fails to craft beautiful kicks. (Minus his '90's platforms I have been seeing lately but we will forget about those...) I can not wait until Gainesville decides to stop acting so much like Alaska so I can finally wear them! Once I can venture outside my apartment sans Uggs I will definitely be rocking these with an outfit like this!

1: Michael Kors Watch ... 2: The Girls in Glasses Print ... 3: Peace Ring ... 4: Express Seam Back Legging Pant ... 5: Berry Branch Earrings ... 6: Michael Kors Gladiators ... 7: Tom Ford Jennifer Sunglasses ... 8: C&C California Tunic Shirt ... 9: Olive Hobo Clutch ... 10: Forever21 Sleeveless Cardigan

Unfortunately I can not find my Michael Kors heels anywhere on the internet, presumably because they have all scampered to your local TJ Maxx's! If you are in the market for some cute gladiators with wooden heels I have found some great buys!

Again, A New Look!

After a couple more hours of Photoshopping I have changed the look of TPCG again! Our living room TV blew out today and so I used that as an excuse to waste hours on Photoshop! Last night I couldn't sleep and was staring at a new photo album that I had recently purchased. The "clover" print on my new album is one of my favorite patterns and I knew I had to make it my background. (And my mom told me that the new background I had created was ugly. Thanks mom.) So, I took a picture of the cover, altered it on Photoshop, and VOILA! A new look to my blog. This is way more "me" and I am really happy with it! (For the time being...)

I hope everyone likes the new NEW changes. Now that I have opened up this can of worms there may be no stopping me. Expect lots of changes coming soon!

New Look!

Photobucket

Hey y'all!!! I just updated the look of Through Pink Colored Glasses!!! I hope you like it! What do you think?

I am still tweaking and adding some things at this point. Hopefully it will look complete soon! I have been wanting to change the look of my blog for a while and found the time to Photoshop for hours while watching The Bachelor. I didn't even realize that my background kind of looks like Tory Burch...until I showed it to my bf and he noticed! Haha I have him trained well! (Juuuuust kidding!)

Any suggestions, questions, comments?

-The Rant-
Typical, typical, typical! One of my New Year's resolutions is...you guessed it...to WORK OUT MORE! I must say that working out has been a resolution of mine for the past ten years, and somehow I never follow through! (Imagine that.)

I love being active, breaking a sweat, and I LOVE playing sports...so what's the problem? All of my life I have had scheduled "work outs" whether it was going to volleyball practice, playing tennis, or running around with my friends. Now that I do not have sorority intramurals to keep me active, I am finding it so hard to get my butt to the gym!

I hate the gym. I hate being there. I hate the treadmill. It is BORING! The only way I am going to stay on a treadmill for more than ten minutes is if I am watching Gossip Girl. So, I have decided to finally do something about it! I got a jump rope!

-The Plan-
So far I have loved jump roping for cardio and it is a lot harder than you may think! To keep my motivation going I have researched some fun and challenging jump rope workouts. Since I have found a lot of them, I will just include links for you to check them out on your own!

-The Equipment-
From my expert research I have learned that you should invest in a jump rope that has ball bearings and is the right length for you. Visit this site to find out how long your jump rope needs to be. (Yes, there actually is a JumpRope.com....)

$16
My roommate has this one at it is great! (And pink...)

Photobucket
This is the jump rope that I have. I got it at TJMaxx for $7!!! I suggest heading down to your local TJ Maxx, they had a TON of jump ropes!

-The Ensemble-
When you look great, you feel great. When you feel great, it is much easier to work out! Now who wouldn't want to get their sweat on in this Nike get up???

2. Black Shades-Brisco
3. Check Yes Juliet-We The Kings
4. Party in the U.S.A.-Miley Cyrus
5. Dance Inside-All American Rejects
6. My Humps-Black Eyed Peas
7. Walk it Out-DJ Unk
8. Bad Romance-Lady Gaga
9. Alligator Pie (Cockadile)-Dave Matthews Band
