No Shame in Fakin' It

Since we all can't look like Beyonce naturally, we are forced to invest sometimes upwards of hundreds of dollars on getting there. I think Beyonce has be most beautiful skin color ever! Even though I am Italian, I still am nowhere near as tan as I would like to be! I have been obsessed with fake tanning since I was in middle school, and often caught a lot of slack for my shoddy application skills. BUT, who cares! I have been a slave to the tanning bed in the past and am simply too busy and smart to do that anymore! I am over increasing my chances of getting skin cancer, get claustrophobic in those beds, and hate finding the time to go to the salon! UGH! Getting my roots done every 6 weeks is enough for me to handle!

Thankfully tanning has come A LONG way since 1999 when I used to pick from a selection of three self tanners at CVS. Here is my favorite, Salon Bronze, and some tips and tricks for application! If you guys like this list, I will make a more complete list of everything else I use to fake my bronze! If you have any questions, ask!

Sally Beauty Supply
$12.99 for the starter set
$8.99 for replacement canisters

THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE EVER. I have been using this as my method of tanning for several years now. While there is a bit of a learning curve on application, I highly suggest it as a low cost alternative to traditional tanning. You simply purchase the original set once (which comes with one canister) and then purchase the replacement canisters when the original one is empty. I usually get about 1.5 tans out of each canister (but since I am a bit of an addict and do multiple coats, you may get more!) Here is what I usually do to get the best results. Feel free to laugh at what I do but I promise that it works!

-Wear socks with washable flip flops, whatever clothes you like (won't stain clothes/sheets)
-Make sure you shave before but allow for about 12 hours to pass so that you don't get the tanner in your open pores, if you don't wait it will look like you have little brown dots everywhere!
-Wash your body off to get off any oils, etc and scrub off excess dead skin
-Do the process in your shower with the curtain closed for easy cleaning
-Put lotion on your palms and in between fingers before (You don't need a ton!)
-Be prepared with rubber cosmetic wedges and paper towels
-When you do your face, simply spray the cosmetic wedge with the liquid and apply like concealer, make sure you get it in to your hairline a bit or you will look like you are wearing a mask! Apply less on your nose as your pores will absorb more there!
-When you spray your body, make sure you are about 10 inches away, use slow and even strokes, and follow with the cosmetic wedge/paper towel to smooth excess or dripping
-I usually will pat with a paper towel to remove excess and I will also wet the paper towel a little to rub in the tanner around my elbows, wrists, ankles, and armpits
-Do one complete coat and allow to dry some before you start on another (Don't you love how I say coat? Like I am painting a house or something?!?)
-I usually allow the tan to soak in for at least a day, the solution has bronzer in it so that you can see where it goes and you will look bronze immediately!
-Once you are done, take your goofy old man look off (socks with your sandals) and do your feet like you did your face! Only use very little on your toes, you can always apply more later! I also do the tops of my hands like this as well
-Wash your hands thoroughly after you are done! You can put on makeup over it too!
-I usually wear black clothes after waiting about 15 min to get dressed. BUT I know that it has washed out of everything I have ever gotten it on!

Here is picture of me after I did the Salon Bronze at my friend's wedding, just so you can get an idea of the color! (I cropped my boyfriend out, I knew he wouldn't be too keen on being displayed in a post about spray tans! :) )

Hopefully this will help you all get bronze and beautiful! I know if I could look as good as January Jones and Nicole Kidman with pale skin, I would do it in a heartbeat! But since I can't, I fake it! Good luck everyone!

I Don't Wanna Grow Up

...Cause I'm a Toys R Us kid....ok I just had to, hopefully you all can hear the jingle in your head.
Photobucket
Sorry couldn't resist using the photo of this angry ginger child. He truly captures how I feel about growing up. Ha.

Since I have started graduate school I have realized that there is a certain level of growing up I must do. Blechk. I have only been back to my sorority house twice since I graduated and feel very old when I do. It was very bizarre lately to be in the hallway of the house when a new PC '09 (freshman, new pledge, to all my non greekers) blankly stared at me and asked where she should put her overnight bag. (Probably a question I asked when I looked like this. I was a wide-eyed hopeful and excited freshman on the first day of college in my messy pink and green dorm room. Remember those Hollister skirts? Those were my jam. You can laugh at how terrible I look, permission granted.)
Photobucket
Naturally, I blankly stared back and replied, "I am an alumni, I am old, just put it wherever you want." Now I guess I could have left out the first part since homegirl obviously had no clue that I wasn't in KD anymore but for some reason I keep finding myself letting people know. Maybe it is to convince myself that I am okay about growing up and leaving my awesome undergrad years behind. (I know I am okay at least leaving those Hollister skirts behind that is for sure.)

I went to KD for Big Little Night and went yesterday to be filmed for my grandlittle's pageant video. My dear grandlittle and former roommate won a HUGE pageant last year and even won a car! Every year at the pageant when the reigning queen relinquishes her crown to the next winner they play a video of her, her family, and friends saying nice things about her. When I was picking out my outfit for the video I strangely found myself gravitating towards my most "pageanty" clothes. Living with my pageant queen grandlittle last year opened my eyes to all that is pageant fashion. We would always make fun of her for the ridiculous and crazy outfits she would wear, and win in. Let's just say my favorite was a red and zebra combo little number. We all find it also very funny because my other roommate (my little) and I dress more pageanty and wear more makeup in real life than my pageant queen does! How beautiful is she!?!? The above photo is of me, my grandlittle Tess, and my sorority house mother, Ms. Gale. Ms. Gale is an amazing and wonderful woman, what a kind heart! I also did her makeup and hair for the shoot and it was so fun! Sorry for the crap photo, I just had my iPhone and it was bad lighting!

My family after MILANI was added to our family!

As I said before I also went to KD for Big Little Night. Since I am friends with the new member of my KD family, I decided I would go along for the surprise. My great grandlittle made us shirts (the usual for these kind of things) and mine literally said GREAT GREAT GRANDBIG. (Do you think that qualifies me for senior citizen discounts on Wednesdays at TJMaxx? Don't ask me how I know that.) Above are some photos from the night and of our family tree. Needless to say it was both exciting to see how happy all of the new girls were and sad that I and so many of my friends are gone. For nostalgia purposes, here are some photos of Big Littles past!

Freshman year outside my dorm admiring my surprise sidewalk chalk in the most hideously terrible outfit. I posted this purely for entertainment purposes. Have a laugh.

My big Jess and I on my Big Little night in 2005. It really was painfully difficult to find a photo where I didn't look completely and totally awful. Have another laugh on me.

OK enough of that, time to grow up and look for jobs. Hopefully everyone got a good laugh!

So Loving it Right Now

Photobucket
Since it has been a while, I shall make another installment of "So Loving it Right Now". Despite my current chicken-with-my-head-cut-off-ing (which should now answer your question to the above photo) I have been so loving a lot of different things. This past week has been INSANE, hence the lack of blogging, mainly due to me going to career fairs and researching potential careers. I mean, where is the job posting for professional bloggers? fashionistas? celebrities? future tennis playing moms?

Ok well really. If anyone can think of something I A) Might be good at B) You know someone with a great job for me and C) Want to hire me for 100K as your personal fashion consultant and/or decorator then hey, I wouldn't mind. No really, I wouldn't. Please and thank you.

Enough about me, let's talk about things I like and don't like. Which I guess in some degree are about me.

So Loving it Right Now

1. Really cool history stuff (Ok stuff is the best word to describe it, apologies.)
Now this So Loving it spans a couple different topics but overall, all these sites/things are really cool. Coming from a person who slept through history class in school and avoided taking it in college, these things are pretty awesome. It is not that I do not like history, don't get me wrong, I LOVE history. It is just a matter of liking history when it is all encompassing, including music, pop culture, fashion, and politics...all in one. So offer me a class in that and I will register.

Awesome, very cool video footage of Anne Frank
This is a video that has been released via YouTube in honor of the launch of their Anne Frank Channel. These are the only video images as of this time of Anne Frank and, in my opinion, that is pretty cool. If you want to find out more about this check it out here.

Hip website incorporating fashion and history as one
Photobucket
ACL is not just something to tear anymore. This website is awesome. Granted it is written by a guy and has little to no reference to women's fashion (gasp) it is still interesting, relevant, and informative. I am a big fan. I especially liked his post on patents. I guess that is dorky to the Nth degree but it really got me thinking about everything else that was patented in America, especially those LL Bean boots. If you love America and American fashion, business, and supporting the aforementioned, then you will like this site.

2. Useful and Informative Website
Photobucket
I must say that I either am growing up, or I have little to no desire to ever visit Perez Hilton's site anymore due to the fact that he is an ultimate hack. What a winer. Blogging is all about authenticity and he doesn't even write his own blog anymore. I can't stand when people abandon what made them work in the first place to make MOMENTARY cash flow. (Just realized monetary and momentary are very similar words, coincidence? I think not.) Ok enough ranting about something that I could go on about for hours, I LOVE Life Hacker. I literally visit this site EVERY day and have never once not found something I didn't find relevant to my life. (How about those triple negatives in a sentence btw.) You can find advice, tips, tutorials, articles, EVERYTHING about everything you would ever want to know. If I were to sum up this site I would say it is USEFUL!

So Not Loving it Right Now

1. Kandi Burruss' of Real Housewives of Atlanta: Ex-Finance AJ Jewell killed in Atlanta Bar Brawl
Photobucket
Violence is never the answer people. This is very sad news and my prayers go out to their family and friends. I am an avid watcher of all the RH series and Kandi actually happened to be one of my favorite people on any of the seasons. Allegedly her fiancee passed away in the hospital Friday night due to his injuries from a brawl at Atlanta club Body Tap. How terrible. Details are still developing, one can only hope that this isn't true.

2. I would have a number two but since I just stated something very sad and terrible I will forego this number and appreciate all that I have been blessed with! Count your blessings friends and be safe!
